Ichiryu Hakata Udon House specialise in delicious, handmade noodles served to you fresh using quality ingredients from Japan. Udon are thick, chewy, white noodles, often served in an umami-rich tsuyu stock made with konbu kelp and bonito. Our udon are made fresh everyday here by highly trained chefs, using special Japanese udon flour 'Menishin', the key element of udon, to achieve great flavour and texture. Udon are regularly enjoyed throughout Japan as a healthy, light and nourishing meal. Alongside other Japanese favourites, Ichiryu dishes will be available for eat in and takeout, making it the perfect choice for workers on-the-go and families alike. Ichiryu is the newest venture of entrepreneur Tak Tokumine, who founded Japan Centre in 1976. Tak, who has a passion for the food of his hometown, Hakata; one of the birthplaces of udon in Japan. The history of udon is said to have started in 1241 when Enni, a Rinzai monk, introduced flour milling technology to Japan, from this flour and recipes, Hakata locals went on to develop the udon noodle.
